World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines are widely used for the interpretation of bone mineral density (BMD) results. In addition, WHO patient classification guidelines are now commonly used to interpret BMD results obtained at a variety of skeletal sites. However, it is important to note that patient classification results will vary based on the site measured and the technique used.
