Radiation
A Low Dose CT scan is a very low-risk procedure. At Envision, you can be guaranteed to have the lowest dose yet producing the highest quality images, with the use of their leading, state of the art CT scanner – the Siemens Somotom Force.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please discuss this with your doctor and also alert our staff before your scan. You may be able to have a CT scan during pregnancy if it does not affect the trunk area. You cannot have a CT scan during pregnancy if the scan involves the trunk area (including the chest, abdomen or pelvis).
Contrast Dye
If your examination involves a contrast injection or x-ray dye, complications are rare during this procedure. However, occasionally some people may have an allergic reaction to the intravenous contrast material.   You should be informed of the possible risks and side effects which include short term allergic response such as itching, a rash or hives. A more serious allergic reaction to intravenous contrast is called an anaphylactic reaction. When this occurs, the patient may experience severe hives and/or extreme difficulty in breathing. This reaction is quite rare, and requires emergency treatment.
If you are at all concerned about the potential risks or side affects of your CT scan, please contact your referring doctor.
